This class is the perfect place to begin your Tango journey
This class is designed for the absolute beginner, as well as for anyone who wants to take a deeper dive into refining their tango technique, improve balance, posture, and quality of movement. This class may be repeated as many times as you wish.

Learning Objectives in this class:

Tango structure: Posture, embrace, walking, and basic lead and follow Tango Figures: The first series of tango figures will give you the structure and foundation that is essential for learning more complex figures/patterns as you grow in your dance. Without a solid foundation, learning more complex figures can not only be more difficult mentally, but can be physically unsafe for you and or your partner.

Tango Music: We will discuss the 3 most basic categories of tango music and how to tell the difference. I will recommend specific orchestras to look up for listening at home.

Tango Culture: Etiquette at a "practica" vs a "milonga", "Codigos" or rules, and when they are a big deal and when they aren't. How to find a partner, acquire a dance, and escorting your partner on and off the floor.

Tango FUN! We have so much passion and joy for dancing and teaching tango, and throughout these 10 weeks, we will be having fun and celebrating with you as you discover a new way to move and connect with your partner through music.

This class is the perfect place to expand your Tango journey
Prerequisites:
Dancers should be able to walk in partnership, have familiarity with the 8 count basic, and the concept of leading or following ochos. These concepts do not need to feel or "perfect", just be familiar with them. If you aren't sure which class is right for you, please reach out to Kate. 520.609.2159
Learning Objectives in this class:

Tango Structure:
Posture, embrace, walking, and core concepts of lead and follow will be reviewed and encouraged throughout this course.

Tango Figures:
At every class, we highlight a tango "technique of the week". Each class begins with a warm-up and an exercise relating to the movement we will be using in our figure of the week. Our tango figures are musical, practical, dance-floor friendly, and are developed with consideration to the line of dance and the flow of the other dancers.

Tango Music:
We will play a variety of music in class, including traditional tango, vals, and possibly other styles of tango.

Tango Connection:
The word "connection" can seem very abstract and hard to explain, although for many, and it is something we seek when we dance. A good connection can make the difference between a mediocre dance and a memorable one. Our goal is to demystify this term and work with you to tap into your partner's movement, whether you are dancing as a lead or follow role.

POSTPONED!
Special Workshop
Saturday, August 20, 2022

Join Kate and Levi for a deep dive into tango technique for both roles!

Location:
BB DanceSport
6383 E Grant Rd Suite 115, Tucson, AZ 85715
*In the Abbot Jeweler's building*
North side of the street, east of Wilmot and west of Tanque Verde. (Across the street from Target)

Date:
Saturday August 20th, 2022

Times:

11:00 am - 12:30 pm
12:30 pm - 1:00 pm
1:00 - 2:30 pm

Bring:
1. Thick socks for walking in without shoes. (if you are unable to wear only socks, flexible shoes are fine)
2. Your usual dance shoes, or shoes with a leather, suede, or sliding bottom.
Please, no flip flops.
3. Water bottle (we have water if you forget), optional yoga mat for stretching between classes, and if you want specific snacks, feel free to bring them.
Kate and Levi will provide a few snacks between workshops.

*Please let Kate know if you have severe food allergies, such as peanut allergies*

4. Wear clothes for comfortable movement, and if you wish to stretch between classes, please wear pants/shorts.

5. MOST IMPORTANTLY: Bring your sense of curiosity, joy, and sense of play as we explore this amazing, paradoxically simple and complex language of movement. If you approach learning from a place of play, you will need less repetition to master the skill than someone approaching with a more negative or self-deprecating place.

*Regardless of your role in this dance, if you want to take your dancing to the next level, study both roles. You will learn this language at a much broader, deeper, and organic level.*

Schedule:

11:00 am - 12:30 pm: Follower's Technique (Everyone is welcome!) for ALL LEVELS and BOTH ROLES

Alignment, body mechanics, how to develop your musculature for feeling balanced while dancing in heels, and universal tips for reading (~active~ listening versus ~anticipatory~ listening) with your partner. We will also talk about embrace density and what that means for dancing with dozens of different leaders at milongas and festivals.
How to find a "meditative" yet active level of listening to the leader's language while you are dancing.

Kate will be sharing her written summary of tango adornments and women's technique as a take-home hand-out. Kate outlines how to be an artist with your free foot *while* deeply and actively listening to the lead. We do not want to take away his options with our adornos, but we can play when he invites it, or when he gives us the opportunity with our free foot.

12:30-1:00 Break

Stretching, snacks, and tango talk. We will play music for those who wish to practice. Feel free to ask us about our awkward tango moments, bloopers, or ask us deep philosophical tango wisdom related questions. Things could get serious or hilarous.

1:30 - 3:00 pm: Leader's Focus! All Levels, all roles class!

Our Focus will be on Leader's technique while providing opportunities for the attendees of the first class to apply what we have learned.
We will reinforce and encourage our follower's technique while the leaders are developing their technique.

We will help the leaders understand how to apply little adornments during the dance, as well as how to support their follower when she/he is creating adornments.

Remember, balance, stability, and physical alignment must be present before any consideration is given to adornments.

We will post a registration link here soon!
